Smite priest lore

Whitemane is a smite priest
Smite priests exist all over World of Warcraft, striking holy DPS upon those pesky resistance-clad raiders. Let’s look at WoW lore to see how smite priests are integrated into the World of Warcraft story.
Smites that kill at the Trial of the Champion
Argent Confessor Paletress is one of two bosses in the second part of the Trial of the Champion instance, the other being Eadric the Pure. The interesting thing about these two bosses is that they are smite priest and retribution paladin, the two holy DPS classes in the game. Paletress employs Holy Smite, which was the original name of Smite before the only documented change to Smite in patch 0.12. She also uses Holy Fire.
Paletress is a human priest in the Argent Pavilion that listens to the confessions of Champions at the Argent Tournament Grounds. She has a curious resemblence to High Inquisitor Whitemane, including the context of her name: “white mane” and “pale tress.”
You mean there’s smite priests in Scarlet Monastery?
Whitemane employs a lesser version of Holy Smite to protect her chapeau the Scarlet Monastery. Before her perversion by the Scarlet Monastery, she lived as the innocent child Sally Whitemane that you can now see in Old Hillsbrad Foothills.
There’s even holy vanquishers in Karahzan
The Maiden of Virtue in Karahzan has a super-charged Holy Fire that’s sure to rock the socks off anyone in 50 yards. Maiden of Virtue was Johannah’s idol in the Burning Crusade, complete with a unique macro to demonstrate the idolization:

Maiden of Virtue also has a Holy Wrath ability that is keenly similar to High Priest Venoxis.
Holy deeps in the jungles of Zul’Gurub
High Priest Venoxis was the first raid boss to strike with the power of Holy Fire and Holy Nova. He only uses his holy spells when in his priest form though; when he takes snake form, he turns into a melee aggressor, like a smite priest and an enhance shaman all rolled into one.
The holy priests continue to smite raids in Serpentshrine Cavern
Coilfang priestesses serve Lady Vashj with Holy Fire and Holy Smite. They used to also have their own forms of Holy Nova and Spirit of Redemption on death, but this ability was stripped away. Interestingly enough, Lady Vashj is similar to an elemental shaman, another hybrid pews/heals without a “form.”
But the servants of Ulduar smite even harder
The dark rune acolytes of Ulduar are parallels of the Coilfang priestesses in Serpentshrine Cavern, Holy Smiting the intruders of the ancient place of the gods.
A holy farewell at Sunwell Plateau
In phase 5 of the Kil’jaeden encounter in the Sunwell Plateau, Anveena sacrifices herself and applies the buff Sacrifice of Anveena on Kil’jaeden. This significantly bolstered smite priest and retribution paladin DPS. But was Anveena a holy person herself? The answer: she was the incarnation of the remnants of the Sunwell and Kalecgos‘ lover.
Smiting back at home
Back in the comforts of Stormwind, Benedictus, one of the priest trainers, is prepared to Smite his way through any invading Horde. Jarl Benedictus is currently the archbishop of Stormwind and is obvious Johannah the smite priest’s preference for visiting when she needs a trainer. Everyone’s got to have a hero!
