Freedom for All Creatures

This Lvl 47 quest chain is only available to the Alliance and ends with a Sprite Darter Hatchling reward. You’ll start by going to the Grimtotems in Feralas, which aren’t that far off from the Horde settlement. Climb up a thin path and find Kindal and Jer’kai Moonweaver:

• Freedom for All Creatures: Kindal requires an escort to open the cage below and free the Sprite Darters!
• Doling Justice (1): Slay those atrocious savages that dare hurt the Sprite Darters.
• Doling Justice (2): Go report how amazing you are to Tyrande in Darnassus.
• An Orphan Looking For a Home: You need to go back to Kindal for this; it isn’t immediately obvious since they send you to Tyrande in Darnassus at first. Apparently you loved these two Night Elves so much that you thought you’d go help them rescue the Sprite Darters again. This time, however, they have a baby they managed to save–and they want you to help the baby out!
• A Short Incubation: Make sure to bring 2 Elixirs of Fortitude with you before asking Quentin to fix your egg. By the way, this is all the way out at the Mirage Raceway in Thousand Needles. Crazy, huh? Wait until you see the next part.
• The Newest Member of the Family: Now you need to run to Aerie Peak in the Hinterlands! Oh noes! Hurry; there’s a timer!
• Food for Baby: Of course, now the timer is gone. You’d think the rush would still be on until you get your Sprite Darter, right? You need to go collect food for the baby to eat first, though.
• Becoming a Parent: You got your Sprite Darter Hatchling; congratulations!

My guild

• The player that lives with mom and/or dad and has to AFK randomly because of parent aggro
• The player that has a smoking habit and has to AFK way too often to suck on something
• The player that pushes for a raid to go past 8 PM and then tells everyone right before the Big Pull that they’re AFK’ing for dinner
• The player that has some personal problem that causes them to AFK inexplicably and stir up “he must have fallen into the toilet” remarks
• The player that says he’s getting water and doesn’t come back for five minutes

Either way, you’re going to have some raid break time.

You can do three things in this scenario:

1. Nothing. (This is usually easy for your fellow raid-mates to deduce because you whine about how long it’s taking.)
2. Browse the Internet in solitude. (This is a little harder to deduce but is generally obvious by how you are not available even though you have not AFK’d.)
3. Browse the Internet and share with other raid-mates. #1 people salute you.

The next time you’re in this situation, I encourage you to be a proud #3 and share some hilarious and/or adorable websites with your raid-mates. After all, that’s what we gamers like, right?–hilarious and adorable? We like gross too, but that usually defaults back into hilarious.

As a smite priest, I’m a hidden pro at this because I like to find ways to divert the conversations away from the DPS charts whenever possible. (#1’s seem to stretch their egos, fake or not, all over these charts during these quiet moments.) Here’s some of the recommendations that I make. Many of these were originally recommended to me.

The Hilarious

• Marvelous Man Boobs is perfect whenever there’s too much testosterone floating around.
• Get On My Horse may prompt singing.
• The Oatmeal is a general fix-all.

The Cute

• Cute Overload is a classic.
• Zoo Borns is the one I like to share with my fellow female raid-mates.
• Daily Squee is the first thing that comes to mind when people are squealing about gear in Vent.

The Hilarious and Cute

• Fuck You, Penguin is one of my personal favorites, but I’ve noticed some people get bored by it.
• I Can Has Cheezburger is always a win.

King Ping is the critter that pwns.

While doing dailies this morning at an ungodly hour, I found King Ping by happenstance during fish tossing for The Way to His Heart. He gave me an Egg-Warming Robe of the Necromancer for my 70 mage as well as Northern Exposure, which even my 80 shaman is lacking. Not too shabby.

The reason I chose to deviate from the smite theorycrafting and stories and mayhem was not just to share this phenomenal 5 am experience though; the inspiration came from a very interesting comment in King Ping’s WoWhead entry that caught my attention as an IRL penguin lover:

Managed to finally find this guy after searching every day for over 2 months. Kind of a funny rare spawn, found him at his (26,64) spawn. I noticed he had kind of a bizzare penguin model so i researched it and discovered hes a rare type of penguin that went extinct from Irish fisherman called the Great Auk, see link below lol

Now, I’d never heard of the Greak Auk before; the only species of bird I’ve even been vastly familiar with in the past that was associated with extinction (besides the obvious Dodo) was the Spix’s Macaw, which is actually recovering from being hunted to near-extinction decades back. And this is why I feel like the story writers at Blizzard are truly gifted and creative individuals; not only do they keep up with the lore, they integrate these minuet details like the Great Auk into the Wrath of the Lich King experience. Cheers to the awesome King Ping!

Pengu is available through some hardcore Kalu’ak rep grinding, while Chilly is a limited edition friend for converting your World of Warcraft account over to Battle.net. How to get Chilly the penguin

Need to know how to convert your WoW account into a Battle.net account and get your Chilly the penguin? Follow these instructions:

1. Visit the Battle.net login and then select  the “Sign up now!” on the righthand side.
2. Select your country.
3. Scroll through the Terms of Service; read them if you wish. Click the “I accept” box.
4. Select an e-mail address to register it through, as well as a password and secret question/answer. Continue through the personal information process.
5. If you’ve done this before November 11th, you’ll receive your Chilly the penguin in your in-game Inbox. Enjoy!

Note: If you already have a Battle.net account from Warcraft 3, or any other Blizzard game, you’ll need to create a new one. I know, it’s stupid.

Remember that a Battle.net account is only going to increase the security of your account. If you have issues with switching to Battle.net, consult the forums for further information. Make sure to contact Blizzard if the conversion is not working for your account.

How to get Pengu the penguin

Pengu is considered a rare noncombat pet just on the sheer grounds of how much persistence is involved in reaching exalted with the Kalu’ak.

You’ll want to start by doing all of the Kalu’ak quests found in Howling Fjord, Borean Tundra, and Dragonblight for your faction. You can find a list of them here. There are 51 total quests for the Horde (25440 rep) and 47 total quests for the Alliance (22990 rep), which will place you into Revered without a single daily.

The other half of the rep, however, can only be accrued through the 3 dailies at 1500 rep per day. They are:

1. The Way to His Heart… (the one that brought me to King Ping!), Howling Fjord
2. Preparing for the Worst, Borean Tundra; if you also fish, make sure to check the fishing daily to see if it’s Blood is Thicker
3. Planning for the Future, Dragonblight

This will take you awhile, but your Pengu will be well worth the effort!
